Each fall, the Hop welcomes a new batch of Dartmouth student interns. For the next academic year, these six juniors and seniors will spend 10 hours a week embedded in various Hop departments, learning the ropes in production, marketing, educational outreach, box office, house management, graphic design and more, and taking on important responsibilities in those Hop arenas.
We asked this year’s interns to introduce themselves and tell us what Hop events they most look forward to this fall.
Maggie Baird ‘18, from Charlottetown, PEI, Canada, is majoring in linguistics and minoring in theater. She is interning with the Hop’s Outreach Department, which organizes ways for visiting artists and resident Hop artists to interact with the campus and community outside of the performance hall–in class visits, school visits, workshops, master classes, panel discussions and more. She says: “I’m looking forward to getting students connected to the Hop through their classes, organizations, and friend groups! I’m especially excited about working on Collis Cabaret each term this year.”
Maggie’s top five for fall 2017:
Dartmouth College Wind Ensemble, Music, She Wrote…: This is a little self-indulgence because I am a member, but I’m especially excited for our concert this fall, featuring all female composers.
Cabaret, by the Dartmouth Department of Theater: I just got back from the Theater FSP and all my friends are super excited about this production, so I can’t wait to see it.
Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra with Wynton Marsalis: My dad’s a trumpet player, and I had the chance to see Wynton Marsalis my freshman year, so I’m excited to bookend my Dartmouth experience by seeing him again.
Pink Martini: One of my mom’s all-time favorite bands, I’ve missed them the other times they’ve come to Dartmouth. I love how they sing in lots of different languages.
Dartmouth Symphony Orchestra fall concert: I love listening to classical music, and it’s really hitting home that it’s my last year as a student at Dartmouth, so I want to support all of my friends in their artistic endeavours even more than usual.
