Winter term is a lively time for Thursday Night Live, a late-night series of free arts-infused social happenings at the. Mainly in the Top of the Hop and open and free for students, faculty and all friends of the Hop, Thursday Night Live is put together by Monik Walters ’19, a Hop Curatorial Fellow, and Hop Associate Producer Felicia Swoope – who pull in a great sampling of the variety of live performers in the Dartmouth community. The program begins at 9 pm and at about 10 pm switches from live performance to a DJ. And to sweeten the deal, all Dartmouth students 21 and up receive one free drink ticket to use at the Top of the Hop bar that evening.
The Thursday Night Live programs this winter are:
January 10, at The Onion, on Crosby St., Hanover : Soul Scribes, TruHu$tle & Dell
A night of slam poetry, rap and R&B from some exceptional Dartmouth talent. This program is a collaboration with South House.
January 24, Top of the Hop: The Coast Jazz Combo, led by Taylor Ho Bynum, with the Patrice Williamson Quartet.
The Top of the Hop transforms into a jazz club for this collaboration by the Coast Jazz Combo (a subset of the Barbary Coast) and Williams, a favorite jazz vocalist in Boston and beyond whose fluent scat style and sensitive ballad work have earned her Boston Magazine’s “Best of Boston” award and several Boston Music Award nominations.
February 9, Top of the Hop: Dartmouth Opera Lab presents “Warm Toes and Silky Tones.”
Lounge by the vintage ’60s fire pit and enjoy Dartmouth student singers and guest baritone Alex Hurd singing solos, duets and scenes from opera and musical theater.
February 21, Top of the Hop: Soyeya and Jeh Kulu Dance and Drum Theater
Dartmouth’s African dance troupe Soyeya partnered with a HOPSTOP favorite, Jeh Kulu, an African dance and drum performance group from Burlington, VT.
